Top lighting designer Chad Rains of independent consultancy Illuminationworks has been shortlisted for a Lux Award 2019 for his work on the Battersea Power Station branch of fashionable hair stylist Paul Edmonds. Here he reveals his top seven rules for lighting hair salons.
The new Wartski boutique interior is inspired by the brutalist architecture of the antique jewellery’s former location and The
National Theatre; the contrasting environment creates a surprise for customers once they walk through the doors of the
ornate, classical façade.
Fashionable hair and beauty brand Paul Edmonds has opened its Battersea location. The lighting design of the expansive salon, created by Illuminationworks, balances specific technical requirements of the stylists, such as precision cutting and colour mixing, with luxurious atmosphere and calming mood.
Founded in 1865 in North Wales, the venerable Wartski is a dealer of antique Russian artwork, particularly those by Carl Fabergé, and the jeweler to the British royal family. It’s fitting then that architecture studio Waldo Works centered the design on a time-honored concept: the golden ratio.
