Selfridges Headquarters
London
Selfridges London headquarters occupies four floors and provides space for over 300 staff with open plan work spaces, conference & meeting rooms, libraries, and staff kitchens. Illuminationworks created a lighting scheme integrated with the interior design to create the cohesive look and feel as well as meeting a variety of technical challenges.
The rectangular layout of each floor is divided into three linear zones requiring distinct lighting solutions to account for the varying levels of natural light. Artificial skylights mimic daylight in areas furthest away from windows. The overscale, circular shapes are backlit and provide the illusion that every area of the floor has natural light. They also provide rhythm to circulation spaces and a memorable feature that plays on the fresh theme of the overall architectural concept.
